Māori Language Week, an annual event spanning 33 years and run by Te Taura Whiri I te Reo Māori, is on from July 21 to 27.
As part of the week, organisations are encouraged to apply for the annual Māori Language Week Awards for this year’s theme of Te Reo I te Kainga or Māori Language in the home.
Categories include schools, libraries, business, health and many more. Application forms are being accepted until August 8 and can be downloaded from www.korero.maori.nz.
Also on the website are various simple ideas to promote Te Reo. These include putting up Māori signs around the home and finding out the Māori names for household items.
Organisations can take part by using posters from the website or ordering books that include Māori words and phrases.
Celebrate Māori Language Week with Māori Television and Te Taura Whiri by checking out their website www.korero.maori.nz.
Māori Television runs many Māori language programmes as well as having Te Reo, our 100% Māori Language channel.
