KORDIA™ BACKS WORLD INDIGENOUS TELEVISION BROADCASTING

21 February 2008

Kordia™, one of the region’s leading providers of customised broadcast and telecommunications networks, network services and converged solutions, has been announced as a major partner of the World Indigenous Television Broadcasting Conference to be hosted by Maori Television at the end of next month (March).

Aimed at unifying, strengthening and promoting indigenous broadcasters, the three-day event is the first ever gathering of indigenous television leaders from throughout the world and features guests speakers from Australia, Canada, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Taiwan, United States, South Africa, Timor-Leste and New Zealand.

Maori Television chief executive Jim Mather says the name Kordia™ comes from the Latin term ‘accordia’ meaning harmony – bringing people and technology together as one – and the company’s support of WITBC ’08 was a fitting collaboration.

“The conference is a wonderful opportunity to further develop relationships between broadcasters, content providers and technology experts, and we welcome this partnership as a means to develop the advancement of indigenous broadcasters worldwide,” he said.

Kordia™ operates and maintains an impressive New Zealand-wide network and provides design, build, deployment and maintenance of broadcast, mobile and IP-based telecommunications networks across Australasia and throughout the region.

With more than 850 employees including highly-skilled engineering, network operations and field technician staff, Kordia™ has been pivotal in delivering New Zealand’s analogue, and now digital, free-to-air television networks.

Leaders, producers and planners involved in indigenous and public television can register their interest to attend the World Indigenous Television Broadcasting Conference at www.witbc.org.
